Haywood Estate
The history of Haywood winery begins in 1973 in a valley just one mile from Sonoma’s historic town square. The vineyard is named Los Chamizal, Spanish for the hardwood thickets that covered the valley. Today production focuses on the grapes grown in Los Chamizal’s unique mountain terroir and emphasis will continue to be on the three estate Zinfandels, Los Chamizal, Rocky Terrace and Morning Sun. The vineyard’s 42 acres of Zinfandel, grafted with budwood selections from seven North Coast vineyards pre-dating prohibition are planted in nine distinct blocks with soils ranging from well-drained sandy loams at the lower elevations to thin fractured basalt soils at highest elevations.
